ICE STATION VADSØ Premiere

‘Ice Station Vadsø’ - a film we’ve been working on, since Duncan Harris and Colin Izod shot it up in Vadsø Nov 2015 - was premiered to great acclaim at the Varanger Festival recently (August 9th) . Colin and Co Producer Michèle Noach did a Q&A after the film and it was shown at the cinema throughout the week of the Jazz Festival.The film profiles the town of Vadsø and the mini music festival curated by Michèle in Nov 2015. It was warmly received and several local people came up to us to say it was the first time they had felt proud to come from Vadsø. It is an amazing town. Thanks to Kirsti Riesto from Finnmark, Rob Lundgren director of the Varanger Jazz festival and all the musicians who took part. ‘Squelch Quartet’ also played original tunes with Sami singer Elle Márjá Eira, who featured in the film.

Maxine’s Bees

We’ve recently been making some short films for Macmillan Cancer Care. A stand out has been shooting with cancer patient Maxine, who has beehives at the bottom of her garden. She loves working with the bees because they keep her calm. She also has a parakeet called Rio who seems to accompany her everywhere. A privilege!

Ice Station Vadsø

Duncan Harris and Colin Izod are heading back to the Arctic Circle in November to make a documentary around the town of Vadsø in Northern Norway. ‘Ice Station Vadsø’ is a small music festival featuring some legendary musicians, and part of Michèle Noach’s art residency in the town. It’s now 12 years since Big Heart first became involved in Cape Farewell’s original Arctic expedition to Svalbard in 2003. We’re looking forward to being back!

We’re having a preview next week of the Twisted Skyscape music documentary we’ve been working on, since Colin Izod and Tim Watchorn went to Prague in March. We filmed with conductor Shea Lolin, composers Gary Carpenter, Chris Hussey, and Phillip Sparke and the terrific musicians of The Czech Philarmonic Wind Ensemble. They were recording new music for woodwind orchestra. Terrific music, beautiful City!

Colin & Yaba at St James Clerkenwell

21st June Colin and Yaba got married at St James Clerkenwell! It was a terrific day with 160 people from all over the world at the service and reception. Long time Big Heart friends like Joe Chapman, Katie Gormley, Jess Knight, Jane Ripley, Duncan Harris, Philip Chavannes, Susen Vural, Jim Betteridge, Stephen Chadwick and Andrew Bethell were out in force.

Czech Philharmonic woodwind at Smecky Studios Prague

Filmed some of the finest woodwind musicians in the world in Prague for the Twisted Skyscape project. 18 of the Czech Philarmonic’s wind section players were gathered at the legendary Smecky Studios in Prague to record 5 compositions by contemporary British Composers like Chris Hussey and Gary Carpenter conducted by Shea Lolin. Big Heart was there to make the documentary. Fabulous
