ICE STATION VADSØ Premiere

‘Ice Station Vadsø’ - a film we’ve been working on, since Duncan Harris and Colin Izod shot it up in Vadsø Nov 2015 - was premiered to great acclaim at the Varanger Festival recently (August 9th) . Colin and Co Producer Michèle Noach did a Q&A after the film and it was shown at the cinema throughout the week of the Jazz Festival.The film profiles the town of Vadsø and the mini music festival curated by Michèle in Nov 2015. It was warmly received and several local people came up to us to say it was the first time they had felt proud to come from Vadsø. It is an amazing town. Thanks to Kirsti Riesto from Finnmark, Rob Lundgren director of the Varanger Jazz festival and all the musicians who took part. ‘Squelch Quartet’ also played original tunes with Sami singer Elle Márjá Eira, who featured in the film.

We’re having a preview next week of the Twisted Skyscape music documentary we’ve been working on, since Colin Izod and Tim Watchorn went to Prague in March. We filmed with conductor Shea Lolin, composers Gary Carpenter, Chris Hussey, and Phillip Sparke and the terrific musicians of The Czech Philarmonic Wind Ensemble. They were recording new music for woodwind orchestra. Terrific music, beautiful City!

Czech Philharmonic woodwind at Smecky Studios Prague

Filmed some of the finest woodwind musicians in the world in Prague for the Twisted Skyscape project. 18 of the Czech Philarmonic’s wind section players were gathered at the legendary Smecky Studios in Prague to record 5 compositions by contemporary British Composers like Chris Hussey and Gary Carpenter conducted by Shea Lolin. Big Heart was there to make the documentary. Fabulous

Whoo! As well as running Avid Media Composer 6 we’ve now got Final Cut Pro X. Colin’s been editing some live material from The MOJO Jazz Orchestra. Bob Berg’s ‘Friday Night at The Cadillac Club’ is one of the tunes. Colin’s also using FCP to teach a Factual TV course one day a week at DV8 training. Old Dog new tricks? Get out of here! Since he’s likely to be going to Prague in March to film a wind orchestra, it seemed like a good idea to get his eye in!

Big Heart Cycles South

Big Heart has now returned from 4 weeks in France. 1 week cycling down from St Malo to The Dordogne, 2 weeks playing with legendary sax quartet Groupe Sax, busking in markets etc, and a further week with an old friend. After 15 years in Clerkenwell, Big Heart have also said a very fond farewell to Alberto at Scotti’s cafe in Clerkenwell Green and Guven & Elif at Lily Maila, and relocated south of the Big Muddy river to the wild frontiers of Balham. Fully refreshed and relocated we are now on the look out for more films to make!

Documentary, 1 x 15′, 2007

This co-production between the London Symphony Orchestra and Teacher’s TV is an introduction to the orchestra, its instruments and history. The layout of the orchestra and its various sections are shown with brief demonstrations of some of the instruments, and an interview with composer Paul Rissmann on his specially composed piece ‘Supersonic’, written to introduce the orchestra to KS2 children. The piece is performed by the LSO, and is accompanied by members of the LSO Youth Choir singing lyrics and doing simple body percussion.
