Over the last few years Big Heart have been filming some legendary poets reading and giving interviews for the CLPE Poetryline website…. Roger McGough, Jackie Kay, Allan Ahlberg Michael Rosen. CLPE is the Centre For Literacy In Primary Education. We made a 5 minute promo for the site and we also shot 4 documentaries in 2 primary schools looking at how poetry is taught. Drama, 3 x 25′, 1999

A BAFTA nominated programme Colin made whilst working for Double Exposure, which dramatised items of classic short prose relevant to the secondary curriculum. This segment featured Colin’s second cousin, actor Joss Ackland, reading from Edgar Allen Poe’s The Tell Tale Heart. Edie Falco featured in another segment dramatising Superman and Paula Brown’s New Snowsuit by Silvia Plath.

The CLPE – the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education – is creating an on-line library of videos featuring some of the country’s best known Children’s poets and writers; aiming to engage school children. Big Heart has been filming readings and interviews with these legends.- In early 2011 we filmed with poets Michael Rosen, James Berry, Jackie Kay and Roger McGough, engagements with Grace Nichols and John Agard have followed – looking forward to the next group!

Literacy The Whole Story is a flagship Teachers’ TV series that looks at literacy from Early Years to KS3, from the point of view of Leaders, Teachers, Support Staff, and Parents. Big Heart made the four KS3 Literacy programmes focusing on Little Ilford School in East London – and we designed the series title sequence!

This programme follows Sabrina Broadbent, an English teacher at Hornsey School for Girls, teaching Macbeth to her Year 9 class. Strategies for helping pupils to deepen their engagement with the text include pair work on single lines from the scene, exploring the text for opposites, and choral reading. Produced in collaboration with the English & Media Centre. Nominated for a Learning on Screen Award 2006.

This programme provides the opportunity to view the very imaginative award winning short film DANGLE, and to find out from writer/director Phil Traill, what went into making the film. Phil Traill talks about where the idea for the film came from, and how the script evolved. He also describes the process of creating a storyboard and the decisions behind the use of different camera shots – close ups, mid-shots and wide shots – at different moments.
