British Council Canada film underway

The first shoot for the short film we’re working on for the British Council took place last Monday in Oxford. Five Rhodes scholars lined up to get the ‘Paxman’ treatment from Colin in the opulent surroundings of Rhodes House and Wadham College (one observer described the wonderfully appointed Rhodes House as ‘drowning in polish…in a good way’.) It was a three man operation on Monday, with the welcome addition of Tim Watchorn and the amazing Canon 5D, but Colin will be flying out to Canada on the 20th of Feb without his acolytes to complete the shoot. Bad luck acolytes…maybe next time!

speakgreen re-visited

Last week Big Heart returned to Lincolnshire to re-visit some old friends from the Cape Farewell Education speakgreen pilot project we ran at five schools in the area last year. We went back to see what Lady Jane Franklin, Giles Academy and Tealby Primary school were up to. We also got the thoughts of various Cape Farewell artists and scientists about young people and climate change. Currently in the edit suite putting together a short documentary on the whole process for the Mighty Creatives in Leicester, who funded the project.

Big Heart’s New Year

Looks like 2012 is going to be a busy year for Big Heart. Our poetry clips for the CLPE featuring John Agard & Grace Nichols are complete (check back here soon for some previews), February will see Big Heart head to Lincolnshire to make a documentary with 20 NEETS (young people Not in Employment Education or Training) for the Mighty Creatives. Also looks like we’ll be heading to Canada (that’s Toronto in the picture!), continuing our relationship with the British Council there, making a short film about Canadians who have studied in the UK.

Phew, talk about an Olympic year! May it continue as it’s started.

Pitching Africa

On Wednesday Big Heart were filming at SOAS, documenting the launch event for ‘Pitching Africa‘ – our collaboration with Sylvie Aboa-Bradwell and African People’s Advocacy. The event at the Brunei Gallery, hosted by journalist Henry Bonsu, was attended by diplomats, entrepreneurs and participants including the ambassador of Mozambique, the first secretary of the US embassy, and Princess Nauf al Saud of the Saudi Royal Family!
